QExtract Privacy Policy
QExtract processes your documents on your computer. Connected features include sending selected questions to your Google account through Google Forms and fetching images when you import a web page. These actions are described below.
Who we are
QExtract is a browser extension made by Shubix. If you have a question about this policy or about your data, email shubix.connect@gmail.com.
Documents you open
When you open a PDF, Word document, text file or image in QExtract, it is read and processed entirely inside your browser. The file is not uploaded to us or to anyone else, and QExtract keeps working with the internet disconnected.
QExtract declares no persistent host permissions. It can use temporary access for a page import you initiate. Permissions limit website access, but are not a guarantee that an extension cannot make any network requests.
Pages you import
If you choose to import questions from a web page you have open, QExtract reads that page's content in your browser and processes it locally. To keep pictures with the questions, it may download images that are already shown on that page from the website that hosts them — the same images your browser has already loaded. Nothing from your computer is uploaded when this happens.
QExtract only reads a page when you ask it to import from that page.
What is stored on your computer
To be useful between sessions, QExtract stores the following on your own device, using Chrome's local storage for the extension:
- Question banks you save, and the edits and corrections you make to them
- Study progress, if you use study mode
- Display preferences, such as theme and font
- A copy of recent results, so reopening the same file is faster
- A small counter used to decide whether to ask you, once, for a store rating
This information is not synced to your Google account and is never sent to us.
Your free trial and license key
QExtract is free. It runs for 14 days from installation without a key; after that it asks for a license key, which you can download free from our website. To make this work, QExtract stores two small items:
- The date your 14-day trial began, and the latest date QExtract was opened (so that setting the computer's clock back does not restart the trial)
- Your license key, once you enter it
These are kept in Chrome's sync storage for the extension. If you use Chrome Sync, Chrome carries them to your other computers through your Google account, as it does for other synced extension settings; we do not receive them. QExtract checks the key on your device, against a key built into the extension. It never contacts us, or anyone, to check it. Our website opens only when you click the link to get a key, and that visit is covered by the site's own pages, not by QExtract.
The QExtract web app
QExtract is also available as a web app for phones, tablets and browsers other than Chrome. It is the same app and parser, and it handles your documents the same way: they are read and processed inside your browser and are never uploaded.
- The first time you open it, your browser downloads the app's files from this website, as it does for any web page, and keeps a copy so the app works offline afterwards. Our host, Netlify, handles those requests like any other visit to this site. No document, question or answer is part of them.
- What the extension keeps in Chrome's storage — question banks, corrections, study progress, settings, the trial date and your license key — the web app keeps in this browser's own storage on this device. It is not synced and is never sent to us.
- Clearing this site's data in your browser's settings deletes all of it.
- The web app has no Google Forms sign-in and does not import pages from other tabs, so it never sends questions to Google.
Google Forms: the one feature that sends data
QExtract can create a Google Form from your questions. This only happens when you click Push to Google Forms.
- Chrome asks you to sign in to your Google account and approve access. QExtract requests only permission to create and edit Google Forms (the
forms.bodyscope). - The questions and answer options you chose are sent to Google to create a form in your Google account. They go to Google, not to us, and Google's Privacy Policy applies to them.
- QExtract does not store the access token. Chrome manages it as part of your browser's Google sign-in, and you can revoke it at any time from your Google Account's security settings.
QExtract's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What we do not do
- We do not collect, receive or store your documents, questions or answers.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, tracking or advertising.
- We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone.
- We do not require an account.
- We do not send your documents to any AI service. Parsing is done by rules that run in your browser.
Problem reports
If you choose to create a problem report, QExtract shows you the complete report first, hides identifying content by default, and saves it as a file on your computer. Nothing is sent automatically. You decide whether to email it to us, and if you do, we use it only to fix the problem you reported.
Rating prompt
After you have used QExtract successfully a couple of times, it may ask whether you would like to rate it. The count behind this stays on your device. Choosing to rate opens the Chrome Web Store page in a new tab; choosing "No thanks" means it will not ask again.
Permissions, and why
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
identity | Signing in to Google, only when you choose "Push to Google Forms". |
storage | Keeping your question banks, corrections, study progress and settings on your device. |
activeTab and scripting | Reading the page you are looking at, only when you choose to import questions from it. |
contextMenus and sidePanel | The right-click menu entry and the side panel. |
QExtract requests no host permissions.
Deleting your data
- Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything QExtract has stored on your device. The trial date and license key may remain in Chrome Sync until you clear synced data in your Google account.
- You can clear study history for a document from inside QExtract at any time.
- Forms you created in Google Forms belong to your Google account and are managed there.
Children
QExtract does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Teachers and students can use it with class material knowing that the material stays on their device.
Changes to this policy
If we change how QExtract handles data, we will update this page and the effective date above before the change reaches users.
